I've been a fan of the Mahavishnu Orchestra since the eighth grade. They are probably the greatest jazz fusion band ever. They were led by electric guitarist John McLaughlin, and their ranks included Billy Cobham and Jan Hammer, who went on to have successful musical careers. (Jan Hammer wrote the theme song to the TV show "Miami Vice") If you are thinking of buying a Mahavishnu Orchestra CD, I would suggest "Visions of the Emerald Beyond" or "Innermounting Flame", followed by "Birds Of Fire".
